PSP Go Production Stopped

According to multiple sources, it seems that Sony is halting further production of the PSPGo.

Courtesy of Eurogamer, Sony has stated that,

“It is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices…Before the end of the year we are launching NGP, our next generation portable device, which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming. In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money, Essentials range of games and we will continue to meet that demand.”

Despite this optimistic response, the halt was probably caused by the incredibly poor reception the PSPGo has received since its launch in 2009. Upon release, it was an expensive piece of hardware that held no benefits for previous PSP owners to upgrade, as UMD based games could not be played on the PSPGo. Other problems, such as the analogue stick placement and change to a proprietary port (rendering all previous PSP cables to be incompatible), only made a seemingly pointless system an even less worthwhile purchase.

The console which was only a year and a half old allowed you to play PSP games from the PSN network.
