Blade & Soul to Enter Open Beta Stage in 2011

Director Lee Jae Seong from Korea-based NCsoft made a speech at the recent "2011 Global Game Market Outlook Seminar", and disclosed that Blade & Soul would launch its OBT this year.

According to Lee Jae Seong, MMORPGs will lead the online game market in South Korea this year, and online games like TERA, which has gone into commercial service, Arche Age which will meet players, and Blade & Soul, will draw lots of players. As he said, though the OBT date of Arche Age is still unknown, Blade & Soul will perform its open beta within 2011 for sure.

In the Q1 financial conference last year, NCsoft announced that they'd carry out Blade & Soul's open beta in 2010, which was postponed though. Later, Blade & Soul's trial version was unveiled at Gstar 2010. Last December, Blade & Soul's Lvl40-oriented content was made public through its "Soul Party Test" held at Busan, which's a proof of its smooth development. However, the game's exact CBT date is still unannounced.

As for this, many insiders fancy that Blade & Soul may enter its OBT stage this year. In this way, it can be said that the game is very likely to conduct its OBT in Q3 or Q4 2011.

Cabal Mercenaries Guide

Recently, Cabal Online released Episode 5: Mercenaries, which featured, as it's title says, the Mercenaries. These are special "allies" that you can summon in order to defeat mobs and monsters as you go about in Nevareth.

What is a Mercenary?

A Mercenary is a special kind of "mob" that can be summoned (later i'll say how to do it) by you in dungeons. At the moment, there are 9 differents kind of Mercenaries that you can find, divided in this way:

* Six Covenant Mercenaries, each one is divided in four types:
* Two Faith Mercenaries (not in this update yet).
* Three Dazzlement Mercenaries.
* Also, every Mercenary has one of this four levels indicated between a pair of parenthesis:
o Normal
o Rare
o Epic
o Unique

To be able to summon a Mercenary, you have to have:

* His card in your Mercenaries panel (press "Y" to open it).
* The right Gem of Summons (Gems are purchasable from any Grocer or Core Alchemist) depending on the level of the Mercenary. One Gem can summon one Mercernary.
o Gem of Summons (Normal) - 250.000 Alz (10 pieces).
o Gem of Summons (Rare) - 500.000 Alz (10 pieces).
o Gem of Summons (Unique) - 1.000.000 Alz (10 pieces).
o Gem of Summons (Epic) - 2.500.000 Alz (10 pieces).

A Mercenary has those proprieties:

* Every Mercenary has a life of 900 seconds (900 HP), so 15 minutes.
* You can summon only one Mercenary at time. To be able to summon one other, the first one has to be expired.
* A Mercenary doesn't get damage.
* A Mercenary doesn't hit gates or walls (only "alive" mobs).
* A Mercenary hits only the mob you are hitting.
* If you die, your Mercenary will disappear.
* You can make your Mercenary expire by rigth-clicking on his icon above Buffs.
* There is no limitation about the number of Mercenary you can summon in a dungeon.
* In a party, a Mercenary counts as a Party Member. So, as the Party Limit is of seven persons, you can summon max 3 Mercenaries together (3 players, one Mercenary each person).
* Every Mercenary has is own statistic:
o Attack.
o Critical Rate.
o Critical Damage.
* Every Mercenary can also increase a part of your statistic. There are four different types of increasing:
o Single Passive (is automatically activated, and the benefits go to your character).
o Party Passive (is automatically activated, and the benefits go to every member of your party).
o Single Trigger (it actives when a special condition becames true).
o Party Active (to activate this bonus, you have to use the "Use Mercenary Active Skill", a Skill that is kept in Special Skills (under Combo)).

Note: as every level III of Mercenaries requests the same thing, I suggest to activate all them together. To get Orca the Destruction, you will have to wait three minutes after the spawn of the first Orca the Origin. Just wait out of the gate and dance a bit

Note II: as every Manticore will give you more than 1 Teeth, I suggest to activate all the quests together.

AIKA Global intensifies at 70!

Aika Global releases its new level cap at 70 with new maps, monsters and items.

Now is not the time to rest! Aika Global welcomes the strong and vigilant as T3Fun releases its first major patch of the year. Explore the unchartered level 70 zone, Aika Global’s new level cap. Push your limit and explore new monsters to bash, new lands and new items to fight for.

The new zone, “Termes”

Termes

Last Base of the Magicians

Horma in Termes

The new zone, Termes is where the Tower of Giovanni, a place for Great Prophets of Lakia, is located. It also serves as a place of magic research and training ground for the novice magicians. M.I.G., the battle unit purely composed of magicians resides across the place and has developed a unique culture and way of living. However, with the recent appearance of Hormah at the middle of Termes, the place has been contaminated. Worse, an army of Cruel Angels has initiated an attack to free the Labyrinthos that it has turned the place into a battle ground. To recover Termes, which serves as a symbol of Lakia, congress has summoned all its forces and the great alters to bring forth a battle of the generation.

The New Monsters

The New Bosses

What better way to explore the new maps than to rub elbows with the monsters? The level 60 to 70 monsters live in the contaminated ruined land and are very distinct from the typically monsters seen in-game. Their attack is powerful and any brave fighter may receive unimaginable amount of damage. Adventurers who would like to take the challenge would have to equip strong armors and weapons covered with magic to increase the chances of survival.

Must-have new Items!

In the face of a much more chaotic and deadly battle fields come the new sets of skills for each job class. There are the normal and superior items and new unique weapons that each player can equip their characters with. Upon reaching level 61, players are given 12 stat points followed by 2 stat and skill points in the consecutive levels. New Lvl 65 normal equipment can be made using the Anvil while the Lvl 64 superior equipment can be gained with a certain probability.

To find out more of the new patch and level cap, check out their official website.

iPhone-based Blade & Soul Being Developed

The famous South Korean game developer NCsoft has recently announced that iPhone-based Blade & Soul is being developed simultaneously, and they are recruiting developers for Blade & Soul Gaiden (translated), the iPhone version Blade & Soul.

The iPhone-based Blade & Soul, which was made public on last year's April Fools' Day, has actually entered the development stage, with its PC version and other versions based on multiple platforms in development as well.

Mobile Gameplay

NCsoft has recently disclosed the info about its recruitment of Blade & Soul Gaiden's developers. The iPhone & iPad versions of Blade & Soul and some other sub-titles in preparation are to be developed as well.

As NCsoft announced, Blade & Soul Gaiden is now recruiting server programmers, client programmers and major 3D art designers for its iPhone & iPad versions. In view of this, it's possible that NCsoft will employ more support staff.

Particularly, certain requirements are set for the major 3D art designers' experience in the use of Unreal Engine 3 and iOS. The iPhone-based Blade & Soul's video unveiled on the April Fools' Day last year was just something achieved by means of the engine applied at that time.

Later, the iOS-oriented engine developed by Epic Games will be used to render the visual effects of iPhone-based Blade & Soul if released. Actually, this engine's application will bring Blade & Soul's hardware performance into full play and strengthen its current 3D graphics too.

Blade & Soul's iPhone & iPad versions are more likely to be endowed with the graphics as excellent as those of the PC online version. NCsoft and Epic Games reached a consensus in this respect at last year's E3, and everything is just subject to the development progress of both the iOS-oriented engine and Blade & Soul.

Cabal PH: New Bail-out Rates and Penalties to be Implemented

Cabal PH has finally given in to the legit Cabalists' cries!

Beginning March 3, 2011, after the scheduled weekly server maintenance, Cabal PH will implement new bail-out rates and penalties, in line with the massive illegal third-party program usage in the game.

CABAL Online players whose accounts have been blocked will be given the opportunity to reactivate their accounts with the reinstitution of the bail-out system.

The bail-out page shall be activated again this January 26, 2011. CABAL Online player accounts which were blocked during the time the bail-out system was suspended can start bailing out their accounts until March 3, 2011.

After March 3’s scheduled server maintenance, a new bail-out policy shall be implemented. Please be informed that CABAL Online players who did not bail out their accounts before the deadline along with player accounts which were blocked after March 3’s server maintenance shall be subjected to the new bail-out policy.

Current Bail Out Rates and Penalties:
1st Offense: 20 EP Bail OR 30-Day Ban
2nd Offense: 150 EP Bail OR 60-Day Ban
3rd Offense: 500 EP Bail OR PERMA BAN
4th Offense: 1,000 EP Bail OR PERMA BAN

NEW Bail Out Rates and Penalties:
1st Offense: 100 EP Bail OR PERMA BAN
2nd Offense: 500 EP Bail OR PERMA BAN
3rd Offense: 1,000 EP Bail OR PERMA BAN
4th Offense: 2,000 EP OR PERMA BAN

Big thumbs up to E-Games and the Cabal PH team for finally making this move. However, players should not keep their hopes up as to whether this will be implemented for a long time, if not until the game gets pulled out of the market. If they will strictly implement this system and ban those who are truly using illegal third party programs, then perhaps we could finally see a clean gaming environment in Cabal PH.

Runes of Magic Database Hacked

Thank God it's not Runes of Magic PH!

It's reported that a Runes of Magic player called "augustus87" has hacked Frogster's database and threatened to release the data that contain over 3.5 million players' info to public, and even shut down the game's servers unless Frogster meet his demands.

It's not "911" or terrorist attack, but the deeds, including the purpose of the guy are exactly the terrorist style. But don't take it seriously, since Frogster has announced that the information that got hacked and kidnapped is old data from 2007 and won't do too much harm to Runes of Magic players.

The hacker seems to be quite a righteous guy and the man who advocate free speech, as he asks Frogster to stop closing or deleting any thread on the forum (perhaps not a good idea), treat the company's employees more kindly and respect their privacy (is that guy working in Frogster?), and fight against in-game cheating (well, good guy), etc.

The hacker even uploaded an audio to YouTube to let more people know that.

Dragona FPS Fighting System Test on Jan. 20

The MMORPG Dragona Online, which is produced by over 80 developers and published by Korea-based LivePlex, can be said as a masterpiece of LivePlex at the cost of more than 2 years and 8 billion won. Dragona Online is a fantasy game based on a destructive war between the Goddess and the Evil Dragon. Featuring rich important elements, including dragon hearts, magic enhancement and continental protection, as well as offering a variety of combat modes and a special system to convert dragon's power, this game is well received by players.

Recently, the official company has announced that a brand new FPS fighting system will be added to the game. As an important part of the game, the FPS fighting system provides a platform where characters can show off their respective strength and compete with each other. Moreover, the game will add more modes, like "Celebratory Fight", "Powerful Fight" and "Dead Fight".

The "Herrera Arena" is a combat mode in which players can fight in a designated area at a specific time. 100 vs. 100 combats can be carried out at best and the winning side will earn points from combats.

In the meantime, the game will update more types of combat modes later, and a 3-day game test will be held starting from January 20th. Players who are interested can search for more details through the game's official site.

Aion 2.5 Hits Korea on January 26

It seems that NCsoft and NHN's one-on-one fight is about to begin. TERA just launched open beta in Korea and NCsoft today announced to bring Aion 2.5 to live server on January 26th. Although the 2.5 patch won't change the core of Aion, it revamps the game on several key aspects and more importantly, it's a prototype of Aion 3.0, the expansion that could drastically change the game.

Aion 2.5 features upgraded graphic that will also be applied in Aion 3.0. NCsoft takes Aion 2.5 for a transitional period and the current graphic will still be available in Aion 2.5 for low-end PCs

Customization is another part that gets a big update. It will implement the best character customization system in the world and theoretically, it can provide at least 100 million different faces. Besides, new movement system allows you to run and fight as a ninja.

For the 2 new instances you can check out the official patch note. In the current version, a low level player obtain almost no EXP if there's a high level player in his party, but this will be changed in 2.5 with the coming of "assistant system". You can expect to grind less and level fast.

According to NCsoft's Kim Hyung Joon, Aion 2.5 is the first step to realize the contents in Aion Vision movie and other contents to be brought in step by step, which will finally lead you to Aion 3.0.

PSP2 To Be Revealed on January 27

A new version of the PlayStation Portable — a dedicated PlayStation Portable, mind you, not the all-but-confirmed PlayStation Phone — is long overdue. The latest rumors, however, point toward Sony unveiling a next-generation PSP as early as this month.

Gaming sites VG247 and MCV both claim that the so-called PSP2 will be unveiled at a Sony "business overview and strategy meeting" in Tokyo on January 27, just two weeks away.

The new PSP will go on sale "later this year," VG247 reports, adding that early versions of the console have been circulating around gaming development houses for about a year.

Sony has yet to confirm the PSP2, but execs for the electronics giant have been hinting about the handheld for months now.

Only a few weeks ago, Sony gaming boss Kazuo Hirai told the New York Times that a new version of the PSP — not that there necessarily is one, of course! — might boast touchscreen controls, similar to iOS and Android handsets. (Let's just hope Sony doesn't throw out analog controls with the bathwater.)

But while Sony may take some cues from smartphones with its new PSP, the PlayStation Portable platform will continue to focus more on deeper, more "immersive" games, rather than casual mobile titles like the ubiquitous Angry Birds, Hirai promised in the December interview. There's also been talk of Sony execs supposedly bragging to game makers that the PSP2 "is as powerful as the PlayStation 3."

The latest chatter comes as rumors continue to mount over the widely leaked, Android-powered PlayStation Phone, which has been spied, videoed, poked, prodded, and even dismantled in recent days and weeks, although neither Sony Ericsson nor Sony proper has spilled the beans yet.

It's been more than a year since we saw a new PlayStation Portable arrive in stores — the PSP Go, a slimmed-down version of the still-available PSP 3000 with slide-out gaming controls and flash memory instead of a UMD disc drive.

The Go landed with a thud, however, with gamers objecting to the lack of UMD (which meant old disc collections wouldn't work on the Go) and the then-steep price tag ($250, which Sony ultimately chopped to $199 last fall).

OK, so what happens if that January 27th Sony meeting comes and goes without a PSP2 announcement? Well, there's always the Game Developers Conference in late March, a reliable venue for gaming news. Further out, we've got E3 in June, or the Tokyo Game Show in September.

TERA Okay for Medium-end PC

The MMORPG TERA, which is published by Korea-based NHN, has extremely dazzling and exquisite graphics. It was once reported that TERA was the best MMO in terms of graphics (TERA Ranked No. 1 in Graphics). However, we can see from TERA's official site that its PC system requirements are not high.

Only Intel Pentium 4 is enough, which is the minimum requirement. Namely, even though your computer was purchased several years ago, it can still run the game. That's unbelievable! Next, let's take a look at more details!

The recommended system requirements shown on the official site:

From the above table, we can say the basic system requirements for TERA are quite acceptable. Nevertheless, will computers with such specifications really be able to run the game? Well, let's believe it, after all, the system requirements are announced through the official site.

This report consists of the system requirements provided on the game's official site and some relevant game info. To some extent, whether the game can be run smoothly also depends on the network speed and many other factors.

Minimum Specifications

This list is purely out of date. Perhaps, players can only run the game but cannot fully experience it.

Aika Global GMs Offical Statement

These GMs mean serious business.

An Aika Global player recently posted in the Aika Global Facebook Fanpage that his friend's item was deleted by GM Virtus on the assumption that it is a hacked item. The allegedly deleted item was crafted by the said player.

Here's the result of the investigation.

Aika Global Official Statement

It has come to our attention that there was an Aika Global player who posted an alarming statement in the Aika Global Official Fan Page.

Upon knowing this issue and as part of our procedure, our management organized an investigation of this case. We also coordinated with the Logs Team (the team who supervises in-game transactions and other activities such as player’s log-in/log out) to request for details that will help us to solve this issue.

Please allow us to explain first on how this issue started.

January 7, 2011; GMVirtus talked to PhxPeterNorth, a member of Phoenix guild. GMVirtus informed PhxPeterNorth that the item he bought from other player was a hacked item. As part of the hacked item restoration procedure, GMVirtus informed PhxPeterNorth that the hacked item will be deleted from his possession and PhxPeterNorth agreed to cooperate. On the same date GMVirtus deleted the hacked item from PhxPeterNorth account and returned all the gold/items that he used to purchase it.

January 8, 2011;
Rix Tan, an Aika Global player, posted a comment in the Aika Global Fan Page and a screenshot of his statement can be seen below.

We asked GMVirtus explanation regarding this issues and he stated that he never talked to RedVirus or any Aika Global GMs.
Below are the images of GMVirtus, RedVirus and Riko’s conversation regarding the issue.

Rix Tan and the rest of the players’ serious allegation against the Aika Global GM Team, particularly GMVirtus, in the Aika Global Fan Page do not have any basis or concrete evidence. We do believe that by this entire statement and the evidence presented, we have cleared our case, particularly GMVirtus who was directly involved in this issue.

We also have some friendly advice for all those involved: Please be more careful in your allegations and please gather enough evidence to support them because such serious and blatantly false statements may be taken against you.

We would like to remind all Elters that we are fair to our entire customer base at all times and we do not give preference to any particular player, legion, or nation.

Thank you!

Regards,
T3Fun Aika Global Team

May this be a warning to all Aika Global players. May this set an example to all GMs of every online game.

CES 2011: What's New in PC Components

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) isn't just all tablet, cameras, and laptops; there's plenty of news for the PC component geek, too, ranging from tiny flash drives that pack a lot of heat to the hand-held gaming console. If you're a speed fiend, CES has something for you too, like the World's first DDR4 RAM. There are a ton of other components at CES 2011 that could make your life and home seem more like the future, so sit back and try to resist the urge to get out that credit card.

Gaming

The Razer Switchblade is a 7-inch capacitative multitouch computer of sorts that is a littler smaller than a netbook but a lot more powerful. It features a programmable keyboard. It also features an as-yet unreleased Intel Atom processor, and runs Windows 7 with a custom Razer user interface overlay. It also comes with a 128GB SSD, Wi-Fi, 3G, and more. The Switchblade is still a prototype but they hinted that it may be priced in the netbook range.

Processors

Microsoft announced that it plans to support System-on-a-Chip architectures in its next version of Windows, hinting a the tablet market. Although this doesn't mean a lot right now, it could mean some changes to future versions of Windows. SoC architecture can allow a small system--like a tablet--run faster and more efficiently than other architectures because there is typically less lag time between components. Microsoft is working with NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, and Qualcomm on this project.

Another popular item at CES this year are the Intel's new Sandy Bridge CPUs. Our exclusive testing shows that, well, they're fast. Asus has revealed that it has updated motherboards and laptops that fully support the new Intel chips. Asus says that their P8P67 and P8H67 series motherboards, and the laptops in the G, K, N, and VX7 series will be able to support the Sandy Bridge CPUs. According to Asus, the new processors will allow laptops to handle eight-way multitasking.

Also new at CES are AMD's Fusion processors, which are finally shipping after years of demonstrations. These processors include an on-board graphics chipsets, and are geared toward low-end laptops and netbooks, and small desktops.

Memory

CES is booming this year with new sorts of speedy memory and storage devices to fill your needs. This year Samsung introduced the World's first DDR4 RAM. Many people are still stuck using DDR2, so this is quite the achievement. Samsung's DDR4 memory modules feature 30-nanometer chips that run at more than twice the speed of current DDR3 modules, and also use less power. The DDR4 module can achieve a data throughput of 2.133Gbps, and the company says that it could eventually reach speeds of 4Gbps.

Storage

If you're looking for a lot of punch for a little bowl, then Lexar has the package for you: The Echo MX, about the size of a standard flash drive, and the ZX, so tiny that you might lose it, both feature up to 128GB memory. The MC offers read speeds between 28MB/s and 32MB/s and write speeds ranging from 10MB/s to 17MB/s. The ZX features 28MB/s read and between 10MB/s and 15MB/s write.

If 128GB flash isn't enough for you, then you can pick up a Victorinox Secure SSD 256GB USB flash drive. It comes in the form of a Swiss Army knife and features what the company calls the World's smallest solid-state drive. It supports double the read speed and triple the write speed of other fast USB drives, and secure data encryption.

And if 256GB storage still isn't enough for you, you might need Rocstor's 750GB HDD 3.0 hard drive. Rocstor's new USB 3.0 hard drives feature either a 64GB SSD or up to 750GB of storage using a traditional hard drive.

Networking

Meanwhile, Bigfoot Networks announced its new Killer E2100 networking card. Designed with gamers in mind, Bigfoot Networks says its new card will let you control bandwidth on a per-applications basis, among other features. Expect more information on the Killer E2100 later this year.

Cases

We also saw some PC cases at CES. One of the most notable was massive Zalmann GS 1200, which looks like something straight out of a science fiction movie--only with cooler LEDs. This bad boy features four fans, seven (!) hard drive bays, four easy-to-access USB ports at the top, eSATA support, and support for liquid cooling. Look for it in the first half of this year.

CES 2011 offered a lot of new materials for you to finger through. GeekTech hopes that you've found a new device or component to compliment your computer or entertainment needs.

Razer Switchblade: World of Warcraft in Your Pocket?

You'd probably play World of Warcraft on a laptop, but on a handheld? Probably not. Not unless it offered enough key-space to manage the interface and compensated for the missing mouse in a way that didn't suck.

Razer has an idea for a handheld that might just pull it off. It's called the Razer Switchblade, and while it's still in the conceptual stage, it's making the rounds at CES in Vegas this week.

Imagine an Intel Atom-powered netbook running Windows 7 that's not really a netbook (it's much smaller) with the graphical oomph to crunch moderately intensive games like World of Warcraft or Warcraft III.

Part of its ability to do so hinges on its relatively low--but high for a 7-inch glossy LCD--resolution 1024x600 touchscreen.

And that's not all you can touch. Flip the Switchblade open and you'll discover what Razer calls a "dynamic tactile keyboard." It packs in 45 reasonably spaced keys, and here's the twist: Each one functions as its own miniature color screen, i.e. 45 plastic keys stretched over a second LCD.

That means each key can independently change its appearance, morphing the key area from a simple QWERTY key bed into something that might display buttons found in the interface of whatever game you're playing.

You know your mod-customized World of Warcraft button overlay? Imagine that shifted off-screen, or rather below-screen, to the keyboard itself. Imagine keys that look exactly as they do in a game's button overlay, not indirect QWERTY re-maps. No hitting a letter or number to trigger something, the keyboard becomes the buttons and ostensibly lets you shift them around any way you like--up to 45 slots to fiddle with.

Imagine those keys capable of changing on-the-fly, i.e. context-sensitive key-mapping. The interface changes as what you're doing changes.

The keys can even be animated. I'm not sure what you'd want to animate on a keypad--most of us want interfaces that help us keep our eyes off the keyboard. Then again, Nintendo's DS uses two discrete screens. Surely there's a place for keypad animation if a game can be designed to engage the concept properly.

The Switchblade packs most of the features you'd expect from a netbook, including Wi-Fi, mini-HDMI, USB 3.0, standard audio out and microphone jacks, and adds integrated 3G network support to boot.

We've heard naught about price or availability so far. As noted above, the Switchblade's still in the concept stage (you can read more about it on Razer's official site), and Razer says even the 'Switchblade' name could change. Whatever form (or name) this thing eventually takes, the company calls it a product "that will change the future of gaming."

If it's actually capable of channeling the world's most popular MMO through a device that fits in the palm of your hand--to say nothing of real-time strategy games and first-person shooters--it's hard to see how it won't, and it's nice to be able to write that without cringing for a change.
